It’s a mess’ – Carra critical as Saliba slips again
David Raya was criticise by Jamie Carragher for his role in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta’s equaliser at Arsenal. Was also unimpressed by the role William Saliba play in the goal.
The Arsenal defender has been near faultless since arriving in the Premier League, but has now made two mistakes leading to a goal in his last three games ahead of a huge Champions League semi-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain.
Saliba had been pickpocketed by Vinicius Junior at Real Madrid for his goal and then against Palace passed the ball straight to Mateta. Before he levelled at the Emirates with Raya off his line.
“We’re going to see this more and more where goalkeepers are not just good on the ball, but if you see, Raya is part of the back four. That’s fine,” Carragher said.
“Where I do have a problem with David Raya, as soon as Odegaard takes up the position as another centre-back, I just think you have to get back in your goal.
“And maybe it’s the thing of ‘we’re winning 2-1’, a little bit more lax than it would have been. As soon as Saliba plays it, he doesn’t need to be there.
